Switch Open Street Sundays
9am-2pm
Sunday, September 9th, 2012
The Planning & Design Centre (PDC), together with community partners, are working at the grass roots level to advance our region’s shift toward a more sustainable transportation system. Active transportation and sustainable communities are increasingly important in HRM, functioning as important tools to reduce congestion, improve health, and enhance the vitality of the city. Switch is a transformative initiative that enables people to engage with the street and explore alternative modes of transportation in comfort and safety.
On Sunday, September 9th, a 2km route on the Halifax peninsula will be closed to vehicular traffic from 9am to 2pm and open to walkers, runners, bikers, in-line skaters, strollers, dancers and much more. Inspired by the growing number of successful “open street” type events hosted in cites across the globe, Switch is about promoting healthy and active living, in a fun and festive community-based atmosphere. This will be the first Switch in Halifax, with the hope of making it a regular event.
