  • Regaining Momentum: The role of evidence in shaping city priorities June 13, 2026  4:00 pm - 6:00 pm Dalhousie Student Union, 6136 University Ave, Halifax, NS B3H 4R2, Canada

Join us for a discussion on strategies for cities facing challenges in implementing sustainable transportation.

Redesigning cities to support walking, cycling, and transit can create healthy, sustainable, and socially connected communities. Yet, in several provinces across Canada, provincial governments have targeted the removal of bicycle lanes and speed cameras. While it may feel like these setbacks are increasing, there have been instances of successful resistance.

Join us to hear from our keynote speaker, Canadian injury researcher Dr Linda Rothman, who provided expert testimony in Cycle Toronto's successful charter challenge to Ontario's Bill 212. Dr Rothman will speak to her experience providing expert testimony, the more recent removal of speed cameras, and her role as a public health researcher and injury epidemiologist. This will be followed by a panel featuring Halifax Councillor Laura White, David Trueman of the Halifax Cycling Coalition, and Simone Mutabazi from the Ecology Action Centre to discuss current challenges and opportunities for making our cities safer for all road users.

Doors open at 7:00 pm with light refreshments provided.

Event begins promptly at 7:30 pm.

Join us at Halifax Cycles for a hands-on bike care clinic with our friends at Halifax Cycles. We'll cover the essentials of keeping your bike in good shape: cleaning and lubrication, how to spot signs of wear on key parts, and general maintenance practices every cyclist should know. The clinic applies to all bike types, including e-bikes, so whether you're riding a road bike, a cargo bike, or an e-bike, you'll come away with practical skills to keep it running smoothly.

Space is limited to 12 people. The first 6 to arrive (with their bikes) will get hands-on time working on their own bike during the clinic. Free to attend, open to all skill levels.

    Register here.
