Volunteer Opportunities Available
Advocacy
Help campaign for a more connected and safer cycling network by tracking council motions, conducting research, writing letters to officials, and supporting initiatives that promote cycling as a primary mode of transportation in the HRM.
Time Commitment:
Year-Round
Key Months:
1-6 hours a month. Tasks are often project-based and can be completed remotely
Key Events:
Council meetings, budget cycles, and election periods
Leading bike rides
Help foster a vibrant cycling community by leading fun, safe, and welcoming rides for all skill levels. You’ll plan routes, ensure group safety, and act as a friendly representative of the Coalition to encourage more people to choose cycling for recreation and transportation.
Time Commitment:
4–8 hours (typically 1–2 rides per month)

Roll Into Spring and Bi-weekly summer rides
Communications (Newsletter & Social Media)
Help expand the organization’s reach and engage the cycling community by creating compelling content for the regular newsletter, managing social media channels, and assisting with digital outreach campaigns.
Time Commitment:
Approximately 5–10 hours per month

Monthly newsletter and social media management and content creation
General event support
Assist in the successful execution of organization events by helping with setup and tear-down, managing registration, directing attendees, and providing general logistical support to ensure smooth operations.
Time Commitment:
4–12 hours per month

I Light HFX, summer events, community event table, and meetups
Bike Valet
Help make community events bike-friendly! You will be responsible for securely parking and retrieving bikes, providing a free and safe coat-check service for bicycles, and encouraging event attendees to cycle.
Time Commitment:
Flexible shifts, 1 to 8 hours long

May to November.

Bluenose Marathon and Nocturne
Membership support
Help grow and retain the organization’s membership base by assisting with membership renewals, processing new member data and analyzing membership data
Time Commitment:
Approximately 3-6 hours per month
Key Months:
Year-Round

Membership reconciliation and data analysis, member engagement, membership drives
Fundraising
Help build the Coalition’s fundraising capacity by researching grant opportunities, developing donor outreach strategies, planning fundraising campaigns, and exploring new revenue streams to support cycling advocacy and programming.

6-12 hours per month
