Public Lectures

The Halifax Cycling Coalition is committed to facilitating an ongoing forum for public discussion to improve education and awareness and establish a bicycling culture in Halifax. Below is a list of past public lectures hosted by the HCC and our community partners.

  • July 5, 2018, 7pm: Dr. Melissa Bopp, Associate Professor of Kinesiology at Penn State, presented “Beyond the Bike Lane: Lessons Learned from Around the Globe”. In her presentation, she shared exciting bike-friendly projects happening throughout North America and Europe. Although bike lanes are an important part of a bikable city, initiatives like bike sharing, bike co-ops, outdoor bike fix-it stations, and youth education programs establish a culture where riding a bike is safe, comfortable and normal for people of all ages!
  • September 26, 2013, 7pm: Jennifer Keesmaat, Chief Planner for the City of Toronto, spoke about lessons learned in cycling infrastructure. This free lecture took place at the Potter Family Auditorium at the Kenneth Rowe Management Building, Dalhousie University.
