Urban Cycling 101 – Part 2 (Dartmouth)

Registration is closed for this event
Have you taken the online Urban Cycling 101 course this summer? If so, we are now offering in-person practical skills training to anyone who's taken the online course!

Do you want to get around the city by bike? The Urban Cycling 101 Course will help you build your confidence to cycle on urban streets and feel safe riding in mixed traffic in HRM. Take the course and find a sense of freedom that comes with the simple act of riding a bike.

The Urban Cycling 101 course is intended for adults (18 years of age and older) who know how to ride a bike but want to deepen their skills for riding with traffic in an urban setting. The course is also helpful if you have been riding in the city for a while, but you still have a few questions about the rules of the road.

This is the second part of the course, which consists of 2 hours of in-person training. Join instructor Ashleigh Boers from the Ecology Action Centre's Making Tracks program for a 2-hour bike skills training session. The skills training will include practicing hand signals, balance, etc., in a parking lot setting, and then going for a short bike ride as a group. You can see what the practical part of the course is like by watching this video

The course has a minimum of 4 people and maximum of 12 people, meaning that if we don't have at least 4 people registered, we will cancel and offer you a spot in the next course. You will need to bring a bike to take part in this portion of the course. If you don’t have a bike or access to a bike, you can rent one from Halifax Cycles.

To participate you must pre-register on this page. The training session is free, and we are welcoming donations to help us cover the costs to deliver the course. We want to make the sessions as financially accessible as possible by offering them at no charge, so if you are able to contribute financially to help cover the cost of your registration (and maybe another person's) that would have a big impact on us to continue to deliver the course and make it available to as many people as possible! We are extremely grateful for your support.

The practical skills training is open only to those who have participated in our Urban Cycling 101 online course this year.
